Snow Lantern

Snow Lantern sits low between mature birches, its blackened cedar volumes linked by a charcoal concrete spine. The approach is intentionally quiet: a covered bridge crosses the snow garden and arrives beside a luminous, translucent wall. From there, the plan unfolds around a protected winter court and a dark reflecting basin that steams on the coldest evenings.

The main living room is oriented toward the changing forest rather than a single distant view. A broad hearth anchors the room, while diffused panels soften the transition between the blue exterior light and warm oak interiors. Five suites occupy independent wings, allowing the house to feel intimate for a couple and generous when filled with guests.

Snow performance is integrated into the architecture. Deep eaves protect circulation, the roof geometry directs accumulation away from entrances, and a high-efficiency ground-source system supports radiant floors throughout. Materials remain deliberately restrained: charred cedar, wool, pale stone and dark concrete. The atmosphere is precise but never severe — a winter house built around warmth, silence and the slow choreography of snowfall.
