An elemental fjord residence calibrated to weather, tide and the long tonal shifts of the northern sky.
MATERIAL REGISTER
Dark timber · patinated copper · local black stone
A home shaped from the conditions around it.
Tideglass follows the contour of a granite headland in three narrow volumes. Dark timber reduces the profile of the house, while naturally patinated copper catches the green-grey tones of sea and lichen. Each room is placed close to the ground and protected from crosswinds by black-stone walls that extend into the landscape.
The central volume contains a sea-facing kitchen, dining room and salon gathered around a rough stone hearth. Full-height glass is recessed behind deep eaves, allowing the view to remain generous without turning the interior into an exposed display. A sheltered terrace becomes an outdoor room in calmer weather, with a low fire and steps descending to a private tidal platform.
The four suites occupy quieter wings, each with a framed view rather than a panoramic façade. Smoked oak, charcoal wool and brushed copper create a warm counterpoint to the cool exterior palette. Tideglass was conceived as a year-round residence: resilient, carefully serviced and emotionally tied to the changing weather rather than dependent on perfect conditions.
